Confirmed funky.
The isitfunky? Confirmed badge is a wax seal for bars that actually pour natural wine, like the wax on the bottles they open. Checked in person, dated, and never for sale.
Every listing shows its proof.
We only call a place natural when we can show why. Each venue carries the strongest stamp it has earned, with the source and the date we checked.
- Proof on file
Its own site, a named publication or a natural importer says it pours natural wine.
- Proven list
Its wine list names two or more natural producers, or two importers list it.
- Checked by us
An isitfunky editor reviewed the proof and approved it.
- Visited 2026
We visited in person. Dated, and it lapses after 12 months.
A lighter mark, “carries natural wine”, means one importer lists the venue. It never counts toward our numbers.
All five, every time.
- 01
Half the list is natural
At least half the bottles on the wine list are natural wine: grapes only, wild fermentation, nothing added but a little sulphur, if any.
- 02
Three by the glass
At least three natural wines poured by the glass, so someone who walks in can actually drink one.
- 03
Small growers
Most bottles come from independent, small-batch growers who farm their own grapes, not big brands that buy in grapes.
- 04
Someone can tell you who made it
On the visit, we ask about a bottle on the list. The answer should be a person and a place, not a price.
- 05
Checked in person, every year
A dated visit by isitfunky. The decal carries the visit year, and the bar is re-checked within 12 months. Fail a check or miss the re-visit, and the badge comes off.
The badge is a yes or a no; there are no partial badges.
- 01
Nominate
Anyone can nominate a bar, including the bar itself.
- 02
We visit
Unannounced when we can. We read the list and order a glass, like anyone else.
- 03
We write it down
Date, a photo of the list, what we drank. Every badge has a record behind it.
- 04
The seal
A wax-seal window decal with the visit year, and the bar listed on this page with the date. Both at no charge.
- 05
Every year, again
Lists change. So we come back within 12 months.
A wax-seal decal at eye level, by the door, with the year of the visit pressed in. The wax changes colour every year: lime for 2026, blood orange for 2027. A badge lasts 12 months from its visit, so the date that counts is online, not on the glass.
Once a bar is confirmed, it's listed on this page and the same seal goes on its isitfunky page, both with the date of the last visit. In Québec the decal is in French.
Never for sale
No bar can pay for the badge, no listing plan includes it, and no partnership changes the checks. A bar that works with isitfunky in other ways, and then fails a check, loses the badge like anyone else.
Never "organic"
In Quebec and across Canada, "organic" and "bio" are legally reserved for certified products. The badge says natural wine, which is what we check, and nothing we don't.
Never "best"
The badge doesn't rank bars. It confirms one thing: this bar pours natural wine, properly, and we saw it ourselves.
