The Funk Score.
A number from 0 to 100 for how strong the proof is that a venue pours natural wine. Every point comes from a source you can check, and every venue page shows how it adds up. Ratings, reviews and money never count.

- Known natural producers on its wine list, PDFs included. Our crawler stops counting at 12.

The total is kept between 0 and 100. Below a wax seal it tops out at 95: only a visit takes a venue to the very top. The breakdown on each venue page always adds up to its score.

Proven venues (not counting “carries natural wine”), evidence generated 2026-10-11. Most sit in the middle: one strong kind of proof is worth about 50.
Nobody buys a point
- Payment. Nothing a venue buys from isitfunky, and no deal or partnership, moves a single point.
- Ratings. Google stars are shown on the venue page as their own dated fact, never added to the score.
- Reviews. Reviews, likes and saves say whether people had a good night, not what's in the glass.
- The old numbers. Our first index gave every venue a random 0–100 “funky score”. We deleted those; none of them feed this.
- Popularity. Traffic, follower counts and review volume don't count.
Editors can't just raise it
There is no field where anyone types a score. It's recomputed from the proof every time the evidence runs. A person can do exactly two things: approve the proof, which makes the venue “Checked by us” (base 70), or visit, which earns the wax seal (base 85). Both are stamps you can see, not hidden bonuses.
Sources you can check
Our crawler reads each venue's website and wine lists, PDFs included, for natural-wine language and the names of known natural producers. Natural importers' “where to find us” pages, named press and a fresh check that the site is still live do the rest. Natural wine has no legal definition, so the score shows what we found and where, and you can judge it yourself.
