Montreal might be the most underrated natural wine city in the world. The combination of French heritage, creative energy, and proximity to Quebec's emerging wine regions creates something special.

The SAQ (Quebec's provincial liquor board) carries relatively little natural wine, so the best bottles tend to arrive through private imports and direct relationships. Bars here work harder to get interesting wine — and it shows.
Quebec's own wine regions are growing: the Eastern Townships are producing Frontenac, Marquette, and other hybrid grapes, and some growers are making genuinely interesting natural wines from them.
The French connection is real: Montreal sommeliers keep close ties with Loire, Beaujolais, and Jura producers, and some of those bottles rarely reach other North American cities.
