Shanghai's Natural Wine Underground (2026)

SOiF, Vinism, Mavis, and the rise of natural wine in China's most cosmopolitan city.

Shanghai's natural wine scene is small but mighty. A handful of dedicated bars are building something genuinely new — a wine culture that doesn't look to Europe for permission.

Vinism opened in 2017 as the first natural wine bar in China. Small, warm, homey — you step into the cellar and choose a bottle. The list skews European but the spirit is distinctly Shanghai.

SOiF in Jing'an is the most dedicated natural wine bar. Rotating by-the-glass specials, organic and biodynamic focus, and a list sourced from small producers worldwide.

Mavis Wine Co. divides its list into "classic, easy, and funky" — a taxonomy that perfectly captures the spectrum. The orange wine and skin-contact selection is excellent.

RAC Coffee & Bar in the Former French Concession is a French cafe by day, natural wine bistro by night. The crepes-to-wine transition at 6pm is seamless.

RAW WINE Shanghai held its first fair in 2025, signaling that the global natural wine infrastructure now includes China. The scene is only going to grow.
